From Raw Land to Data Center Ready.

Before the first rack goes in, a data center campus needs the survey, the soils data, the site civil, and a testing program that keeps pace with the schedule. Magrym has delivered that work on data center projects in Texas, with the engineers you talk to on day one still on the job at closeout.

The Ground Work Behind a Data Center Campus

Data center developers are buying Texas land for one reason: power. The sites that have it are often raw acreage with no survey, no soils data, and no drainage plan. Turning that land into a campus that can carry transformers, generators, and cooling plants on a hyperscale schedule is surveying, geotechnical, and civil work before it is anything else.

That is the work Magrym does. We have supported data center projects with land surveying, geotechnical engineering, site civil design, environmental compliance, and construction materials testing. The same services we deliver every week across Texas, applied to sites where the loads are heavier, the acreage is larger, and the schedule leaves no room for a missed test.

You get one firm and one point of contact. When a question comes up in the field, you reach the engineer who owns the answer, not a call center three offices away.

Our Services on a Data Center Project

Six service lines, one contract. Each one is a core Magrym discipline, scoped to what a data center site actually requires.

Land Surveying

Survey data drives the acquisition, the financing, and the layout of every building, duct bank, and substation pad on the campus.

  • ALTA/NSPS surveys for acquisition and lenders
  • Boundary and topographic surveys for design
  • Construction staking and as-built surveys
Land Surveying

Geotechnical Engineering

Data halls, generator yards, and transformer pads put heavy, concentrated loads on the ground. The foundation design is only as good as the soils data under it.

  • Subsurface borings and lab analysis
  • Foundation and slab recommendations
  • Pavement design for heavy equipment access
Geotechnical

Site Civil Engineering

Large campuses move a lot of earth and create a lot of impervious cover. The grading, drainage, and utility design have to be right the first time.

  • Mass grading and building pad design
  • Drainage and detention design
  • Water, sewer, fire line, and access road design
Site Development

Environmental Compliance

From the Phase I that clears the land purchase to the SPCC plan for backup generator fuel, the environmental paperwork follows the project from start to finish.

  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • SWPPP for large disturbed acreage
  • SPCC plans for generator fuel storage
Environmental

Materials Testing

Our AASHTO accredited lab tests the soil, concrete, and aggregate that go into the pads, foundations, and paving, with results turned around on the construction schedule.

  • Soil compaction testing on building pads
  • Concrete testing for foundations and slabs
  • Aggregate and asphalt testing
Materials Testing

Construction and Code Inspections

Special inspections keep the structure on track with the approved plans and the building official satisfied, so the certificate of occupancy is not held up at the end.

  • Reinforcing steel and concrete inspections
  • Structural steel and SFRM fireproofing
  • ICC code compliance inspections

What Makes a Data Center Site Different

The services are familiar. The stakes are not. These are the pressures we plan around on every data center project.

Heavy, Concentrated Loads

Transformers, generators, chillers, and dense server rows load the ground far beyond a typical commercial building. Settlement is not an option, so the geotechnical data and the compaction testing carry real weight.

Compressed, Phased Schedules

Data center campuses are often built in phases, with the next building starting before the last one is finished. Survey crews, testing technicians, and inspectors need to show up when the schedule says, not when a queue opens.

Large Acreage, Large Footprint

Hundreds of acres of disturbed ground and new impervious cover bring stormwater permits, detention requirements, and drainage questions that have to be answered before grading starts.

Documentation Owners Rely On

Owners, lenders, and end users expect a clean record: sealed surveys, test reports, inspection logs, and as-builts. We deliver documentation that holds up to their review.

Where We Fit in the Project

Magrym can join a data center project at any phase, or carry it from land acquisition to closeout under one contract.

01

Site Selection and Due Diligence

We document the land and flag the issues before the purchase closes, so there are no surprises after it does.

ALTA/NSPS survey · Phase I ESA · Preliminary geotechnical
02

Design Support

We deliver the survey and soils data the design team builds on, and the civil design that gets the site ready for vertical construction.

Topographic survey · Geotechnical investigation · Site civil design
03

Construction

We stake it, test it, and inspect it. Our field crews and lab keep pace with the contractor so testing never becomes the critical path. Our inspectors will ensure code compliance.

Construction staking · Materials testing · Special inspections · SWPPP
04

Closeout

We deliver the as-built record and the final reports the owner, the lender, and the building official need to sign off, if applicable.

As-built survey · Final test reports

Big-Project Capability. Direct Access to the People Doing the Work.

Data center projects tend to attract the largest national firms. Those firms bring scale, and they also bring layers. With Magrym, the engineer who scopes your project is the one who answers the phone when the pour is at risk.

  • Direct line to the engineers and project managers on your job
  • Survey, geotechnical, civil, environmental, and testing under one contract

Frequently Asked Questions

A typical data center project needs an ALTA/NSPS survey and Phase I Environmental Site Assessment during acquisition, topographic survey and a geotechnical investigation during design, site civil engineering for grading, drainage, and utilities, and construction materials testing and special inspections during construction. It closes out with an as-built survey. Magrym provides all of these services under one contract.

Yes. Magrym Consulting has provided land surveying, geotechnical engineering, site civil design, environmental compliance, and construction materials testing on data center projects in Texas. We can support a single phase of the work or carry the project from land acquisition through closeout.

Data centers place heavy, concentrated loads on the ground from transformers, backup generators, cooling equipment, and dense server halls. Differential settlement can damage equipment and interrupt operations. A geotechnical investigation characterizes the soils beneath the site and gives the structural engineer the bearing capacity and foundation recommendations needed to design for those loads.

Many do. Data centers rely on diesel backup generators, and federal rules require a Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure plan when a facility stores more than 1,320 gallons of oil aboveground and a spill could reasonably reach waters of the United States. Magrym prepares SPCC plans and can confirm whether your facility falls under the rule.

Yes. Our AASHTO accredited lab and field technicians perform soil compaction, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt testing, and our inspectors handle reinforcing steel, structural steel, SFRM fireproofing, and ICC code compliance inspections. Having testing and inspections with the same firm that surveyed and designed the site keeps the record consistent and the communication short.

Magrym supports data center projects across Texas from offices in Midland and Texarkana. That covers West Texas and the Permian Basin as well as East Texas. Call (432) 999-2737 to discuss your site.
