A New County Jail, Tested From the Ground Up
Midland County is replacing its aging jail complex with a new detention facility in Greenwood, near the intersection of County Roads 110 and 1140. The project is valued at approximately $155 million and delivers a 230,000 square foot facility designed to house approximately 800 inmates.
Magrym Consulting provided construction materials testing and inspection services for the full build. Our scope covered field and laboratory testing of soils, concrete, and masonry, along with on-site inspection and documentation of construction activities for conformance with the approved plans, project specifications, and applicable standards.

Keeping Quality Assurance in Step With a Fast Public Build
A facility of this size runs several trades at once. Earthwork, structural concrete, and masonry walls move on their own schedules, and every one of them needs a technician on site when the work happens, not the day after. A missed test is a gap in the record the county relies on.
Because this is a public facility, the documentation has to hold up beyond the job trailer. Every field test and lab result needed to be traceable to a location, a date, and a specification requirement, and reported quickly enough that the contractor could act on it.
How Magrym Covered the Work
Field technicians, an AASHTO accredited laboratory, and inspection staff working from one Midland office.
Soils testing
Field density testing and laboratory testing of soils during earthwork, subgrade preparation, and backfill, checked against the project specifications.
Concrete testing
Sampling and field testing at placements, with cylinders cured and broken at our AASHTO accredited laboratory in Midland.
Masonry testing
Sampling and testing of masonry materials as the walls went up, documented by location and date.
Inspection and reporting
On-site inspection and documentation of construction activities for conformance, with timely reports to the contractor and project stakeholders.

Through close coordination with the contractor and project stakeholders, Magrym provided timely reporting and quality assurance support throughout construction of this large-scale public facility.
The county now holds a traceable testing and inspection record for a building that will serve Midland for decades, produced by a local firm that was on site when the work happened.
